Legal Essentials: How to Select a Trademark for your Business

Planning on starting your own business? One of the first things that you should do is select a trademark.

A trademark can be anything from a logo, to a picture or even a sound that people will associate with your brand and the goods and services that you provide. A solid trademark gets you noticed and is one of the first steps in placing your business above the rest. Now while that may seem simple enough, oftentimes people will run into trouble when selecting and registering a trademark because they haven't done thorough research and someone has already beaten them to the punch.

In the following video, Foster Swift business attorney John Mashni describes the types of trademarks from weakest to strongest and what people should consider before attempting to register a trademark. This video provides general information and IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. If you seek legal counsel or need help in determining how this information applies to a specific situation, contact a Foster Swift business & corporate attorney before taking any action.
